Daniel Castrejón’s artwork has been exhibited in Mexico, Germany, and the Netherlands. Over the course of his professional career, he has undertaken numerous commissions for art direction, books, and magazines related to art, film, and travel.
His clients have included museums and institutions such as MUCA UNAM, MUAC UNAM, WIELS Brussels, Swiss Design Labs, Museo Franz Mayer, Ex Teresa Arte Actual, Walker Art Center, Museo Carrillo Gil, Complejo Cultural Los Pinos, and Expo Shanghai. Record labels he has worked with include 4AD, Denovali, Ghostly International, EMI, Sony Music, Thrill Jockey, Keplar Rev, Black Knoll Editions, Sonic Cathedral, Innovative Leisure, Atomnation, Kathexis, and Sige, among others, as well as his own label, Umor Rex. He has also collaborated with film festivals such as FICUNAM and music festivals such as MUTEK across its global editions.
Alongside his visual work, Daniel Castrejón founded the record label Umor Rex in 2006, which operates between Mexico City and Berlin and has played a significant role in bringing forward new talent. Under his artistic direction, the label has released more than 160 albums, spanning eerie electronic, avant-garde, and other forms of experimental music. His work within the label includes music curation, artistic direction, art direction and design, as well as the publication of physical and digital media. Umor Rex features a roster of artists from more than 30 countries and has established itself as a solid reference point within electronic and experimental music.
In 2021, alongside his longtime colleague Rigo Rocha, he founded the Mexico City–based art direction and design studio Castrejón—Rocha. The studio focuses on editorial design and identity construction for institutions and initiatives such as museums, galleries, festivals, and brands with a social vision and cultural relevance, as well as large-scale brands with a global presence.
Daniel Castrejón also co-founded An Hour is Not Merely an Hour with Mexican artist Diego Berruecos, an art, editorial, archive, and object-based project that publishes limited edition prints and publications, encompassing archival documentation and original works by both authors, as well as invited artists. As a duo, under the name An Hour is Not Merely an Hour, they have produced works that have been exhibited in Mexico City and the Netherlands.
